Yunhe Zhang

Yunhe Zhang is a filmmaker working across narrative cinema, fashion film, and documentary. His films explore gender and cultural identity. He experiments with how art direction, costume, and moving image can carry emotion and character. After several shorts, he completed a debut feature backed by a million RMB investment. He has taught for three years at China Sichuan University of Media and Communications, Qingdao Film Academy (Beijing Film Academy’s Modern Creative Media College), and as a visiting professor at Jeonju University in South Korea. His works have drawn around 4.5 million views, and he has eight years of industry experience. Building on his broad filmmaking experience, Yunhe studied at the New York Film Academy and the University of the Arts London. He is now pursuing practice-based doctoral research at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é.
Research Overview
I am interested in reinterpreting ancient Chinese gay figures through fashion film, bringing together my creative practice and critical research. My work looks at the intersections of queer identity, mythology, and visual storytelling within a Chinese cultural framework.
