School of Engineering at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Becomes Charter Signatory for Women in Nuclear UK
The School of Engineering at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é is proud to announce that it has become an official Charter Signatory of Women in Nuclear UK (WiN UK), reinforcing its commitment to advancing gender equality, diversity and inclusion across engineering, energy and nuclear-related disciplines.
By signing the WiN UK Industry Charter, the School joins a growing network of organisations dedicated to improving representation and creating more inclusive environments for women working and studying within the nuclear sector and wider STEM industries.
The Charter sets out a framework for action focused on attracting, retaining and developing women in the workforce, while encouraging organisations to promote equitable opportunities, visible leadership and inclusive cultures.
Professor Raffi Villa, Head of the School of Engineering at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, said: “We are delighted to become a Charter Signatory for Women in Nuclear UK. At Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, we recognise that diversity strengthens innovation, research and education. By joining WiN UK, we are reaffirming our commitment to supporting women in engineering and creating opportunities for future generations to thrive in the nuclear and wider energy sectors.”
The School of Engineering has longstanding expertise in nuclear engineering, energy systems and advanced manufacturing, working closely with industry partners to address technological and societal challenges facing the UK and beyond.
Through this partnership with WiN UK, the School aims to further strengthen initiatives that support students, researchers and staff, including mentoring opportunities, outreach activities, career development and engagement with industry networks.
Clare Sharpe, President of Women in Nuclear UK, said: “Women in Nuclear UK has long been committed to supporting the development of future talent, from early outreach through to industry careers. Strengthening how we work with Higher Education is a natural and important progression of that effort.
“We are delighted to welcome Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s School of Engineering as one of our first academic Charter Signatories. Their leadership in this space represents an important step towards a more coordinated approach - one that better connects education and industry and supports women at a critical stage in their career journey.”
The announcement reflects Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s broader commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion across research, teaching and professional practice, while supporting the development of a highly skilled and representative engineering workforce for the future.
